PROJECT: Practice, Practice, Practice! Week Three

WEEK THREE
OCTOBER 1 TO OCTOBER 7, 2017

I'm a SUPER late with writing this week's blog post (however, I posted the piece only 3 days after week 3 ended so at least I wasn't too late with that)... My bad. I had trouble using Adobe Photoshop and my drawing tablet since it was my first time. I'm still struggling with it because I can't seem to turn off the touch on my tablet so it's super sensitive to touch right now which makes it difficult to draw.

This week, I wanted to do a lettering piece digitally. It was something I came up with while in class. "Oh Shit" is a common saying for me especially when it comes to school work and realizing how much crap I have to do but haven't started yet.

The idea came to me on the first day of school during one of my lectures. My professor was going on and on about the syllabus and I was doodling when this idea came to me. You can see my plan/layout below.

At first, I wasn't planning on making a GIF (is it pronounce gif or gif?). I wanted to make a video with 3 different lettering styles for "oh" and "shit". But as I was working on it, I felt like it was too much so I stuck with 1 lettering style for each word and decided to turn it into a gif.

Even though this piece looks simple, it honestly took me hours to get done. I don't have much experience using Photoshop (it's been like 4 years since I last touch photoshop) or drawing on a tablet. So, it was trial and error until I was able to get things how I wanted. After figuring things out, I spent about another hour deciding colors and size. I like how it is now but I feel like I can still find better colors to work with.

It was a fun experience and great learning lesson. I learned that I really like being able to make things digitally and learning through trial and error. Granted, I could save a lot of time by watching tutorials and learning more about the software before I start projects.

I made a different version for Instagram since Instagram doesn't allow gif uploads (this should be changed). I decided to use the same lettering style for both the words and I sorta like how it turned out. Not too sure about the gray lettering though...

I wanted to make these into stickers because I think they'll be fun to have on my laptop and notebook. I edited the piece and this is how it turned out:
I really like this sticker design came out and can't wait to see it in person! My laptop and notebooks are about to be lit!

I'm slowing down and getting behind on this project which is something I really didn't want to happen. It's just that school is getting in the way, especially with midterm season approaching. Hopefully, I won't fully give up though!

Until next time,

Nancyyy
