PROJECT: Practice, Practice, Practice! Week One
WEEK ONE
SEPTEMBER 17 TO SEPTEMBER 23, 2017
The first week of my new project! Woohoo!
I'm not too sure how it's going to go and how long I can last but I will try my hardest to stick with it. For this week, I wanted to draw something in pencil and do it realistically. Before, I have drawn many realistic portraits of my favorite celebrities or photos I find. The last time I tried to do a realistic portrait, was the end of 2015 and beginning of 2016. It was an Tony Stark/Iron Man drawing (that I still have yet to finish). So, it's been quite some time since I've done a realistic portrait. (I mean portraits that have a lot of shading. Recently, I have done some realistic sketches but not full on drawings with shading and all that.)
Recently, I had gotten into a Kpop boyband called, Seventeen, so I decided to draw a member from the group. I'm not too use to drawing males (at least not without a mask on, haha, I have mainly done superhero drawings before) so this would be good practice. Since it had been a awhile since I last drew a realistic portrait, this piece took me forever to do. I tend to have my paper slanted so my drawings always tend to be proportionally weird (I would slant it when I begin sketching and somewhere along the line, I would reposition the paper >.<).
Anyways, I decided to draw Woozi from Seventeen. This piece took over 3 hours to complete, including many distractions and procrastination.

Anyways, I decided to draw Woozi from Seventeen. This piece took over 3 hours to complete, including many distractions and procrastination.
This piece could've been better, I'll admit that. There are some things I don't like about it but there are also some parts that I do like. Each week, I'm going to be listing out my pros and cons for the drawings.
Pros: What I like about this drawing
- I really like the shading of this piece. It's been awhile since I have shaded a drawing like this so it was great practice. Plus, I got new pencils and was able to test them out!
- I think it looks pretty realistic which was my aim for this week's drawing.
- I actually finished this in less than a day!
Cons: What could've been better
- It looks like the person is older than they should be. I noticed that I tend to have this problem of making people look older than they are. I think it may have to do with how I shaded the piece.
- Proportions could have been better. When I did a comparison photo, I noticed that some of my proportions were off.
- I should've shaded the neck and shirt instead of just doing the face.
- The hair could've been better (I'm not good at drawing/shading hair so I just do lines).
Comparison with the reference photo I used:
From this comparison photo, I can tell there are many things I could've fixed and done better. For example, I drew the face a little too squish –– it should've been longer (oops, my bad).
Overall, this drawing provided great practice with shading (especially with all the shadows) and taught me what areas I still need to work on. I noticed that the lips and noses took me forever to get the shape correctly and for the eyes, I kept getting the position incorrectly or messing up the shape. This was a great start to my project and can't wait to see what I make next!
Until next time
Byeeee ––
