PROJECT: Practice, Practice, Practice! Week Six
WEEK SIX
OCTOBER 22 to OCTOBER 28, 2017
Ugghh, a lot has been going on! I have at least one midterm for the next 2 weeks and I just completed two midterms this past two weeks. Not only that but I have other assignments/projects to work on, finding a summer internship, working my part time job, doing chores, paying bills and groceries, this practice project, and a lot of procrastination (hehe).
I wanted to go back and do some portrait drawings however, not a full blown out portrait drawing that I usually do that takes hours (even days) and a lot of shading. While strolling through Instagram, I noticed a lot of people did portraits drawings in sketch form. What I mean by this is that the sketch has the outlines of the person's face and facial features, very little and light shading, and some line for the hair. These sketches focus on the main important parts of the portrait like getting the features drawn correctly instead of focusing a long time on getting all the shading down properly. It looks very simple, effortless, but still amazing.
Lately, these past few weeks, many kpop groups are preparing for the comeback which means lots of new photos and videos are coming out. (yay!) Like I said in my week one post, one of the groups that I like is Seventeen. They released some concepts photos and I decided to use one of those photos to practice sketching portraits.

I'm not the best when it comes to free drawing (I usually have to use some form of grid) so I was surprise how I was able to get this pretty spot on (at least, in my opinion). This didn't take me too long to get done, within 1.5-2 hours (which is a huge improvement for me cause I usually take forever or never finish).

Pros:
- I'm like legit, fricking happy with how this turned out which is rare for me
- I like this style of sketching
- I like how simple this is yet I was able to show what I was drawing
- The shading for the nose and neck were pretty okay
- The hair - simple but gets the job done
- The proportions were pretty decent
Cons:
- Still can't draw lips
- Eyes could've been better
- Could've drawn the nose and ear better
I think this is one of the few times where my pros list has been longer than my cons! Yay, improvement! While there are still things I need to work on like practicing drawing lips and ears, I'm just really proud of this week's piece. I can't wait to see how the next pieces will turn out.
See ya later!
